Gunmen have shot dead, an All Progressives

Government Area of Imo state, Mr. Ifeanyi
Ozoemena.
Our correspondent learnt, on Wednesday,
that Ozoemena was shot dead on Tuesday
night, two hours after he had finished
presiding over a meeting of his party in the
ward in preparation for the rescheduled
Saturday’s presidential and National
Assembly elections.
According to witnesses, the APC ward
chairman was shot dead in his house, in the
presence of his family members.
The Vice Chairman of Logara Development
Union, Chief Martin Opara, who confirmed the
killing to our correspondent, described it as
unfortunate.
Opara said that the Eze-in-council in
conjunction with the community’s town union
had met and sent a delegation to the
Divisional Police Officer, requesting that the
masterminds should be arrested without any
hesitation.
The Commissioner of police, Dasuki
Galadanchi, also confirmed the incident to our
correspondent in a telephone conversation,
saying that the police had evacuated the
corpse.
The police boss said investigations had
commenced to apprehend the culprits.

About 16 people were killed in Ebete
community in Usha council ward of Agatu
Local Government Area of Benue State on
Wednesday when suspected attacked the
community.
Reports also say another two people were
injured.
Our correspondent gathered the herdsmen
stormed the area at about 1am when the
residents were fast asleep. They reportedly
opened fire on houses as the attacked
community residents attempted to escape in
the ensuing melee.
After the attackers escaped, 16 people were
confirmed dead while two others sustained
injuries. They are said to be receiving
treatment at General Hospital in Obagaji,
headquarters of Agatu LGA.
An eyewitness, Daddy Seni, who spoke to our
correspondent in Makurdi, said his father and
siblings were among the deceased.
The Acting Chairman of Agatu local
government council, Alhaji Oyigocho, also
confirmed the incident. He said he had visited
Ebete community with some council
members in company of security agencies.
The Force Commander Operation Whirl
Stroke, Maj Gen Adeyemi Yekini, said the
armed bandits actually invaded there areas
but that they were yet to ascertain the
number of casualties.
“I received a report this afternoon that some
people were killed in Agatu by suspected
armed bandits. I’m not sure of the number of
casualty yet but I don’t think it’s up to 16. We
have sent a patrol team to the general area
where the incident happened. The location
where it happened, although is in Benue can
better be accessed through Loko in
Nasarawa State”.
Yekini, in a statement explained, he had
already deployed a patrol team to the area
verify what really happened.
Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom
described the incident as quite unfortunate
and condemnable. He urged security
agencies to move to forestall further attacks
on innocent people of Benue State. Ortom,
who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary,
lterver Akas
e, said Benue can’t afford
another rounds of killings close to general
elections.
“Yes I can confirm that the governor of Benue
State met earlier today with the
commissioner of Police Mr. Bishi and he
confirmed that there was attack in Ebete in
Agatu earlier today in which seventeen
persons were killed by suspected armed
herdsmen. We feel that this is unfortunate
because the governor has raised an alarm
that some persons for political reasons are
planning to unleashed armed herdsmen on
innocent Benue people, to create fear in the
people for political gains,” he said.

A bricklayer identified as ThankGod Emmanuel, has been arrested by the Niger State Police Command for killing his co-worker over N47,000.
Newtelegraph reports that the suspect killed Tita Komla with a digger at Sauka-Kahuta area of Minna.
It was further gathered that the suspect robbed his victim of his N47,000 and dumped his body inside the gutter.
Emmanuel admitted that he killed Komla in order to take his money.
“I killed him so that nobody would know that I stole his N47,000.
I used dagger to inflict injuries on his head and he died instantly. I least suspected that police would identify me. Well, it’s really unfortunate,” he added.

Criminal Arrested While Hiding At Girlfriend’s Place After Killing Man (Photos)
The police has arrested suspected killers of a young man identified as Diyelaemi Ben-Walson, who was brutally murdered along LaGold Street, Opposite Ekeki police station in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state, last Monday evening.
It was gathered that the deceased, a final year Student of the Niger Delta University in Bayelsa, was jogging in the early hours of Monday when a policeman who was going out saw three other boys pushing 2 generators in a wheelbarrow.
According to Mienpamo Onitsha Saint, the police stopped them and asked them where they were going to with the generator sets. They told the officer they were carrying the generators to a friend’s house named Victor in the area.
The police officer then stopped the deceased who was jogging and asked him whether he knew the three men. He reportedly replied that he only knows them as Victor’s friends who usually visit his place. The policemen allowed the men to go.
It was gathered that in the evening of the same day, Victor came to Diyelaemi’s house with his killers and ask him to follow them. He followed them with the intention that maybe they wanted to inquire something from him.
They took him to the LaGold road, pushed him inside a gutter and shot him to death since he was the only one who could identify them.
With the help of the police, Mr. Victor was arrested with his girlfriend while hiding in her room along Azikoro road in Bayelsa. While the three others were arrested at Opolo Town hall Junction.
$4m Puts Atiku’s Man In Trouble.
The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) is reported to have arrested an associate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate,Atiku Abubakar, over alleged laundering of $4 million.
The money is termed “suspicious election cash”, the Nation said.
The arrest followed an intelligence report on a suspicious transaction by a Bureau De Change (BDC) operator.
The Nation had exclusively reported how the PDP reportedly allocated $3million each for “logistics” to its 36 state branches and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Most Bureau De Change operators and banks have, however, refused the “pressure” to convert the hard currency to Naira.
“A BDC operator was intercepted for shipping $2million from Abuja to Lagos for suspected money laundering,’’ Sources in EFCC is reported to have said.
The source said the BDC operator admitted that the suspect paid the Naira equivalent of $4 million into his account in exchange for hard currency.
“We invited the suspect for interrogation on Monday and Tuesday. Our detectives have also conducted a search of his home. Some useful documents were retrieved. Investigation is, however, still in progress.”
“Apart from documents relating to posh properties at home and abroad, a copy of the EFCC Investigation Report on Atiku’s relationship with a jailed U.S. lawmaker, Williams Jefferson, was retrieved.’’
